Overmoulding saves on two material parts | EPPM magazine editorial |
2 part/colour moulding
using 1 machine means complex, expensive tools & machines.
Using 2 tools/machines Toolcraft can provide cost & other
benefits Parts inspection between shots improves overall yield by eliminating defective pieces at the first stage, whilst careful choice of material & controlled conditions, ensures a firm bond without distortion. Recently, Toolcraft used this method to manufacture a handheld recyclable monitor which detects a number of gases with a visible/audible alarm. Toolcraft completed assembly by making 2 translucent covers, 1 with a clear lens & then pad printed and ultrasonically welded threaded brass inserts into the chassis. |
EPPM Magazine editorial | alloy tools speeds turnaround for injection mouldings |
A Swindon based company
argues that aluminium alloy injection mould tools are a serious
contender to traditional steel tools. Select the right material grade & you can get hundreds of thousands of operations for little more than two thirds of the cost of steel. It is also much faster to machine, cutting design-to-production time. |
|
With pressures on deliveries
& costs ever increasing, Toolcraft offer fast production
of mould tools using low cost alloys. Originally for its own
fast response moulding facility, tool production is now available
to others. By correct choice of materials, alloy
tools can produce
hundreds of thousands of parts & are about 30% cheaper than
in steel. Easier & faster to machine, delivery times are typically halved & as aluminium conducts heat 4 times better than steel, tools run cooler & so, can be run faster, resulting in lower cost parts. Polishing is easier if a high grade finish is needed. Areas of stress can be predicted and, if necessary, strengthened with steel inserts. For greater life at a cost of 10-15%, tools can be nickel cobalt coated to Rockwell 55. Using CAD/CAM, Toolcraft can design using customers own CAD files/part drawings |
dpa Magazine editorial | tiny parts for overseas |
Do you work with thermoplastics and
need advice on suitable This tiny injection moulded plastic part is the result of work carried on behalf of an overseas client by Swindon based Toolcraft Plastics. The set of tools, each of which could be balanced on a pinhead, was developed for volume production, and with trial machines on hand, the Toolcraft team was able to achieve high volume from all the tools within ten days. |
